Mountain Biking and Cycling in Aviemore and the Cairngorms         

Aviemore and the Cairngorms is perfect for cyclists.  It’s quiet and peaceful, the roads aren’t busy and the National Cycle Network crosses almost the entire area and includes 64km of off road routes.  So whether you want to indulge your passion for cycling and take an entire holiday on wheels – most communities and accommodation are linked by cycle routes – or you just fancy a day out, lots of fresh air and the best exercise you can think of, cycling in Aviemore and the Cairngorms gives you every opportunity to enjoy your own experience. 

Scottish Outdoor Access Code 

Cyclists are asked to abide by the Scottish Outdoor Access Code whilst enjoying Mountain biking and cycling in Aviemore and the Cairngorms.  

Suggested cycle routes:
Rothiemurchus and Glenmore Forest, near Aviemore 

Rothiemurchus and Glenmore Forest offers well maintained networks of roads and tracks for all levels of fitness and are ideal for families.  The trails around Loch Einich and south of Loch Morlich will reward you with beautiful scenery, alongside the backdrop of the Cairngorms.  Pick up your leaflet for the Rothiemurchus trails from Rothiemurchus Visitor Centre.   Bike hire is available from Bothy Bikes situated across from Rothiemurchus Visitor Centre. 

Inshriach Forest, near Kincraig 
Inshriach Forest lies between the estates of Rothiemurchus and Glen Feshie and contains several cycle routes suitable for all levels of fitness and is ideal for families. The tracks offer magnificent views over the woodland to the mountains beyond.  For further details click here.   

Anagach Woods, Grantown-on-Spey 
The community of Grantown-on-Spey owns Anagach Woods.  These woods date back to 1766 when Grantown was established as a new Highland industrial town.   An extensive network of waymarked paths and tracks provides access for cycling.  For further details click here.

Speyside Way 
The Speyside Way is one of four official Long Distance Routes in Scotland and stretches 84 miles (135km)  from the moray coast to the Grampian Mountains. You can cycle the route from Aviemore to Nethy Bridge, please note that parts of the 84 mile route are not suitable for cyclists so please check the route if you are expecting to travel further. Laggan Wolftrax, Laggan  
If you’re looking for a real challenge take to Laggan Wolftrax a purpose built mountain bike centre set in Strathmashie Forest, designed and built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers.  18km of the most exciting and demanding MTB off road routes from Scotland’s Forestry Commission, Laggan Wolftrax includes a blue grade Fun Park, the fast and furious red route and – if you’re really serious – the ‘double diamond’ black route.   Car parking and use of the trails is free. Excellent facilities are provided on site by Base Camp MTB including cycle hire, a spares and repair shop, a fantastic café, showers, toilets and bike wash.
