Aviemore and the Cairngorms is famous for its challenging landscape even more challenging activities. But most people who visit are so enchanted by the surroundings that walking is a must at least once during their stay.

There are over 280km of footpaths across the area that pass through almost every type of landscape imaginable from moor and woodland, riverside to loch edge and even beautiful farmland.

Rothiemurchus Estate alone has 50km of paths that take you through the ancient and mysterious Caledonian pine forests and some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland. Pick up a free visitor guide and explore all day.

For wayward marked walks head for Glenmore Forest Park, Inshriach Forest and Anagach Woods with over 15 to choose from and a detailed guide, this is where unforgettable walks happen everyday.

For the free spirited there are dozens of tracks old drover roads and right of way that link villages and towns or just give you a chance to breathe the clean air, stop and enjoy the view and marvel at the sheer serenity and peace that surrounds you.

If you have a passion for walking The Cairngorms explorer is a must read for you, pick up a copy at the start of your stay. There are several outdoor activity providers who provide guided summer and winter walks and expeditions in the area. You can also take the opportunity during your stay to enhance your mountain craft, survival and navigation skills by booking yourself onto a course.
