Director Neil Marshall has penned the script of Centurion and is now helming its production. Centurion is British-set sword and sandals thriller, set during the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 117. The movie is starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko.
Plot:
"The British-set sword and sandals thriller, set during the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 117, details the story of Quintus Dias, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, who marches north with General Virilus' legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon."
Centurion was written originally by director Neil Marshall under the working title Ninth Legion. Historically, the Ninth Legion marched into Scotland from Hadrian's Wall with over 4,000 men and disappeared. Historians dispute the fate of the legion; some believe they were disbanded, while others believe they were massacred in Germania years later. Marshall said of his take of the legend:
"It's not meant to be historically perfect. I'm picking up on a legend and exploring it... it's an action thriller."
