Aviemore and the Cairngorms

Glenmore Forestry Commision Visitor Centre

Glenmore provides opportunities for walking, cycling, orienteering, cross-country skiing and bird-watching in the forest, watersports, fishing and sailing on Loch Morlich, camping and caravaning or simply relaxing in the peaceful atmosphere of the pinewoods.

Glenmore Visitor Centre offers a forest shop, cafe and toilets, as well as an audio-visual presentation and displays about the native pinewoods and the work being carried out to restore them.

The centre is open every day (except Christmas day, Boxing day and New Years day) from 9:00am until 5:00pm.

Our staff will be on hand to provide information about the Forest Park and the recreational facilities it holds.

Ancient pine forest:
Glenmore contains some of the best preserved areas of ancient Caledonian Pine Forest in the country. This type of woodland formerly covered much of Scotland but due to large-scale fellings during the 1st World War and earlier for charcoal, farming and shipbuilding, little of this once vast forest remains.

Only about 80 hectares (197 acres) of this pristine Pine, Juniper and Birch woodland survive in Glenmore, though work to restore another 1000 hectares is well underway through the removal of exotic tree species and encouraging native species to regenerate.
